All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely won the Coretta Scott King Author Honor and the Walter Dean Myers Award. The novel's plot follows two teenagers, Rashad (Black) and Quinn (white), whose lives collide after a police officer, Quinn's best friend's brother, brutally beats Rashad after a mistaken accusation. The book is a story of racial tension, police brutality, and how the incident divides their community and forces both boys to confront racism and privilege.
