From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler won the 1968 John Newbery Medal and other awards, including the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. The story follows siblings Claudia and Jamie Kincaid, who run away from home and hide out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. While living in the museum, they become captivated by a mysterious angel statue and set out to discover if it was sculpted by Michelangelo, a quest that leads them to the titular Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
