Halo: Ghosts of Onyx is a novel where a secret program creates the SPARTAN-III supersoldiers, led by Spartan-II veteran Kurt-051, to be deployed in high-risk missions against the Covenant. As the Human-Covenant war continues, the plot focuses on a team of Spartan-IIIs on a secret mission on the planet Onyx, which contains ancient Forerunner technology that both humans and the Covenant seek to control. The novel is a midquel to the video games, taking place before, during, and after Halo 2.
