Mirette on the High Wire is a children's picture book by Emily Arnold McCully about a young girl in 19th-century Paris who becomes the pupil of a retired, once-great tightrope walker. Mirette learns that the man, the "Great Bellini," has been crippled by fear and, through her own dedication to practice, helps him find his courage again so he can return to the wire. The book is known for its beautiful watercolor illustrations, which are reminiscent of Impressionist art, and for its themes of courage, friendship, and perseverance.
