In Jack Higgins' Rain on the Dead, ex-IRA enforcer Sean Dillon and Captain Sara Gideon are at former U.S. President Jake Cazalet's Nantucket home when he is attacked by Chechen mercenaries. After Dillon and Gideon thwart the assassination attempt, Dillon discovers a link to an old nemesis, which suggests a larger terrorist plot orchestrated by a new "Master" pulling the strings for Al-Qaeda.
