The book Snow by Orhan Pamuk won France's Prix Médicis étranger award for best foreign novel and is a 2002 novel about political and cultural tensions in modern Turkey, following a poet who travels to the city of Kars, where a blizzard traps him amidst political unrest and a series of teenage suicides. Other books also titled Snow have received awards, including Uri Shulevitz's picture book (Caldecott Honor, Charlotte Zolotow Award) and John Banville's novel (part of a series).
