The History of Love is a novel by Nicole Krauss that intertwines the stories of an elderly Polish immigrant, Leo Gursky, and a fourteen-year-old girl named Alma Singer, connected by a book Leo wrote decades earlier. Leo, living in New York, remembers his youthful passion and a book he wrote for his lost love, Alma Mereminski, which has since become famous without his knowledge. Meanwhile, the teenage Alma is on a quest to find her namesake, the subject of a book her mother is translating, which she believes will help her mother’s loneliness.
