The Archer's Tale is the first book in Bernard Cornwell's Grail Quest series, following Thomas of Hookton, a young man whose English village is destroyed by a French raid. He vows revenge on the black-clad knight with a distinctive flag who led the attack, and joins King Edward III's army during the Hundred Years' War to pursue him.
