Carl Hiaasen's Star Island is a satirical crime novel about vapid pop star Cherry Pye, whose drug-fueled antics lead to her body double, Ann DeLusia, being kidnapped by an obsessive paparazzo named Bang Abbott. The chaos ensues as Cherry's eccentric entourage (stage mother, producer, weed-whacker-wielding bodyguard) tries to rescue Ann, while the wild, former-governor-turned-swamp-dweller Skink also gets involved to protect Ann, leading to a comedic Florida-set chase filled with B-list celebrities, developers, and Hiaasen's signature blend of farce, environmentalism, and dark humor.
