The Winter Station is a historical fiction novel by Jody Shields set in 1910 Manchuria, where a Russian aristocrat and doctor, the "Baron," races to contain a deadly, mysterious plague in the city of Kharbin. The novel is based on a true story and explores the clash between Western medicine and Chinese tradition, as well as the cultural conflicts and personal tensions the Baron navigates while battling the epidemic.
